Attorney General Eric Holder was the keynote speaker at the 2009 Department of Justice African-American History Month program. In his remarks he called the American people “essentially a nation of cowards” in failing to openly discuss the issue of race. He urged Americans to engage in forthright discussions of race issues rather than ignore topics that some might find uncomfortable.
